Mexican Army Engages Cartel in Hour and Half Skirmish
Citizens of Nuevo Laredo found themselves in the middle of an hour and a half firefight between cartel members and the Mexican Army on Monday.
The skirmish started around 7pm in several boulevards , before moving into the Plaza de la Mujer in Paseo Reforma area where the Army engaged what is believed to be the North-East Cartel for 40 minutes.
Traffic effectively stopped as drivers avoided moving in fear of being struck by stray fire as convoys of soldiers circulated the area.
Restaurants saw customers throwing themselves to the floor and seeking cover, while pedestrians and street vendors lay on the pavement and hide between parked cars.
Authorities have let to release the victim count, but there are at least 5 reported injuries involved.
