“El Chapo” bribed former Mexican president with $100 million dollars, testified witness in trial

On Tuesday, during an ongoing trial against the Mexican crime lord Joaquin “Chapo” Guzman, Alex Cifuentes, a man who claims to be an old time associate and at some point the right hand man of the accused, declared that in October of 2012, “El chapo” ordered him to carry out a bribe of $100 million dollars for Enrique Peña Nieto, who at the time, was the president elect of Mexico, Cifuentes added that it was Enrique Peña Nieto who first reached to “El chapo”, asking for $250 million, and later sent him a message that he didn’t need to hide anymore.

Cifuentes was introduced as a witness by the defense, under Jeffrey Lichtman, lawyer of the accused “Chapo” who said in his opening statement of November of the recent last year that the testimony of Cifuentes is part of his evidence parade to prove that Mexican drug kingpin Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada was the real boss of the Sinaloa Cartel and the author of a scheme to frame his client.

Francisco Guzman Ortiz, Peña Nieto’s former chief of staff denied the claims, calling them “false, defamatory and absurd” adding that it was the administration of Peña who captured and extradited “El chapo” to the American authorities.
